DJ LILO
Not only is DJ LILO considered one of the nations finest most versatile RnB/Hip Hop DJ’s today, he’s also one of the most experienced, turning out phat tracks in Sydney clubs for over a decade, back when most current DJ’s were busy growing hair on their nutz.
You’ll see no over sized jeans, no XX large shirts, no bling bling or fubu dogg collars - just an ordinary guy with a trunk full of funk blessed with a gift to keeping booty’s grooving and suckas moving!
Currently manning resident spots at rnb superclub Australiawide, deep blu & other hot spots in Sydney, DJ LILO is truly a master of his craft even touring throughout Indonesia in ’98 to crowds boasting over 2,000 clubheads.
Growing up as a kid listening to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Kool and the Gang, it was this fascination and love of soul music that fuelled his desires to become an RnB DJ. Obviously his interest in Hip Hop followed suit soon enough, searching record stores high and low, still adding to his collection some 15 years later.
Working professionally as a DJ for over a decade, LILO’S Knowledge of music and craft is truly astounding. He adds “It’s something I pride myself on, I think I’ve got the cover song to almost any new RnB track that comes out today, people don’t realize that half these songs come from recycled beats from soul and funk artists back in the 70’s”.
LILO got his big-break into the RnB Hip Hop Scene in 1993, debuting at the exclusive DE JA VU NiteClub and CC’s SWING CITY (clubs that arguably gave birth to the RnB & Hip Hop Club scene as we know it today). The rest as they say is History.
Extending beyond the boundaries playing cutting edge RnB & Hip Hop, a listen to any of LILO’S sets and you’ll know he’s not your everyday run of the mill DJ. “I love my old soul, funk and Hip Hop and everything in between”.
It’s this diversity that has made LILO one of the best in the game with his ability to keep feet on the dancefloor. Mixing up the old with the new is always on the menu at any of his servings, keeping it fresh n funky and giving it his own personal trademark twist
The best feeling is throwing down something old like Eric B & Rakim listening to the crowd going buckwild, then backing it straight up with something new from Jay-Z or Missy Elliot and watching the crowd erupt again, I love that sh!t.”
Never missing a beat after all these years, LILO sees his strength as his ability to keep up with the times, adapting to the direction RnB takes as it progresses. “I got into it when breakbeat and old skool RnB was big, then came the New Jack Swing Era, then gangsta rap, and now the more commercialized RnB & Hip Hop as its developed into the world best selling music genre. We see people from all walks of life getting down under the same groove - Black, white, Asian, Latino it don’t matter, as long as u came to party.”
